Report 1998 - 1999 We started the year with lots of bright ideas and enthusiasm - it was almost two months before we ran out of programme ideas and made our annual visit to Quasar, shortly followed by a trip to the bowling alley. Then came the bad news (very bad news). In an evening lacking intelligence, we all voted Sarah in as our Chairman/person/woman/thing. As a result numbers have dropped and are still on the decline, and it has rained every day. Still, life goes on and she leaves in three years with any luck. However if she continues in her current form, her liver would have packed up by then, and we will all be locked up in mental institutions! Activities undertaken last year. The first camp of the year was in Dolygear in Wales, a very lonely place with lots of sheep. This weekend was not under canvas but in a bunk house barn. The main activity of the weekend was walking, each of us walking around 10 miles each, through thick bogs etc. Then it was back to the barn and straight to the beverages where we stayed for the remainder of the evening and into the following morning! Other activities undertaken last year included the Canoeing, 70s Summer BBQ ( Nice hair Jim ), Peak assault training, Swimming, Fair Green Grand Prix and much more. As we entered the summer months we came upon a sport we had never done before - Clay Pigeon Shooting. This was an excellent evening enjoyed by all even though a lack of light limited us to having a small competition instead of a large one. The 18th September saw the start of the Gilwell Gathering which was a weekend that had been building up for months. The first night was a "walk around and meet everyone" night and so the weekend had only just begun. The Saturday morning saw the beginning of a real life-size London Monopoly Game in which our unit had three teams entered although one was disqualified because (yet again Sarah was involved!) Sarah managed to relieve Hoody of a considerable amount of money! Ian managed to fall in the Thames after ensuring us that he wouldn't, luckily we have not had any fatalities yet, but we are looking for volunteers. The Christmas Party. As usual of Christmas we had yearly awards that were this year done by Sarah who was definitely the wrong person for the job, but at least she tried ! and finally our second Peak Assault training weekend In Derbyshire a great weekend except for the wrath of Seans Pants. Pete May, Sarah Brookes, Chris Scorah and others. Seans Official Bit. Currently we have 16 invested members with 2 more not invested and the unit is still getting stronger ! Two new leaders have joined, Jim Brightly returns as AVSL a year after leaving the unit and Stuart Clarke a VSL from Enfield recently moved to Sawbridgeworth. Again many thanks to those who have assisted us over the year Dave Turner as ever ! Richard Hood, Jim, Jon, Steve, Stuart and Dave Mead ( plus those ive forgotten |
